Winter Sport Uniform

Dear Parents of Year 5/6 children

Winter Sport for Year 5 & 6 children begins during school time on the afternoon of Friday, 20 May.  Like last year, teams representing Ilam will be provided with our sports uniform. The school made a significant investment in the purchase of new uniforms in 2014 and as you would appreciate we would like them to be cared for in a respectful way.

Uniforms (tops and shorts/skirts) for football, hockey and netball will be issued in the next fortnight. Children will keep these uniforms at home until the conclusion of winter sport when we will request that they are returned to school. Please ensure that uniforms are washed after Friday sport and are clean for wearing the following Friday. Please DO NOT iron the uniforms under any circumstances.

A $10 ‘sports uniform’ contribution will be included on your accounts. This contribution is collated and has allowed us to purchase some of the current uniforms and will be used to update those teams that will not have a new uniform. (Year 6 children playing Under 11 Saturday netball and Year 5 children playing Future Ferns netball have already been asked to pay $10 towards uniforms. These children will not be charged twice.)  If uniforms are lost or damaged parents will be invoiced for the replacement cost. These costs vary for shorts/skirts from $16 - $27 and for tops from $20 - $27.

In order to ensure that our whole uniform for football and hockey teams is consistent, Year 5 children who play these sports will have a pair of socks issued to them, which they keep. These socks cost $14:50 and as for the uniform fee, will be added to parent’s accounts. This is the only way we can ensure that all aspects of these teams uniform are uniform. Year 6 children who played these sports were issued with socks last year which they should wear again this year. If these have been misplaced a new pair will need to be ordered and the cost will be placed on accounts. If your child is in this category, please ensure they see Renata in the office.

The majority of the cost of the uniforms has been covered by PTA fundraising. Please support the PTA’s fundraising this year as your children directly benefit from their efforts. A big THANKS goes out to Ilam parent, Zansie May, whose company 'Xpansife Coaching' paid for a new sports uniform for one of our netball teams.

If you have any questions about the winter sports uniforms please do not hesitate to contact me.

Further to the Year 5/6 Winter Sport programme a request from Linda Ewen is below.

This year the whole senior school will once again be involved in the Winter Sport competition. Our Winter Sport competition is on Friday afternoons and begins in week three of term two. There are not enough teachers to travel with all the teams so we really need your help.

Supporting a Team - Fridays
We are looking for volunteers from the Ilam School Community to assist us with taking teams to games on Fridays. This would involve meeting at school, travelling with the students to their games and helping them get organised on the field. If this sounds like something you could help us with please contact Linda Ewen linda.ewen@ilam.school.nz with the subject line 'Winter Sport'.

Coaching - Tuesdays
The senior team is also looking for volunteers to help with team coaching. If you have any experience with hockey or soccer we would love your help. If we can get enough coaches we would like to practise on Tuesday lunchtimes starting week three of term two. If you think you could help us here, please contact Linda Ewen linda.ewen@ilam.school.nz with the subject line 'Coaching'.

Kind Regards

Paul Dolan
Principal
