SPORT AT ILAM
Sport is an integral part of life at Ilam. Physical Education lessons across the school assist children in learning and developing skills and game sense. Whole-school cross-country, whole-school duathlon, athletics events as well as Year 4-6 tri-athlon and swimming sports allow children to participate and excel in these events. To assist with the development of fundamental skills, a Perceptional Motor Programme operates for children in the Junior School.
Ilam School is a member of the Canterbury Sports Association and as such our children take part in ‘zone’ and ‘central’ swimming, tri-athlon, cross-country, athletic and swimming events.
All Year 5 and 6 children take part in a winter sport (hockey, netball, rugby and football) programme, competing against other primary school teams at Hagley Park and at local schools.
Year 5 and 6 cricket teams are selected to take part in Canterbury cricket’s competitions during summer.
Swimming across the school in Term 1 is in our school pool and for two weeks in Term 4 at Wharenui Pool.
